Freelance designer, quilter, and author, Jean Ray Laury is widely known for her "message quilts," her creative combinations of graphic arts and fabric techniques, her witty lectures, her fabric designs for FreeSpirit Fabrics, her series of humorous quilt-related poems and stories (including a series on Sunbonnet Sue), and her inspirational The Creative Woman's Getting-It-All-Together-At-Home Handbook.
She has authored many books on topics ranging from quilt techniques to creative stories, and her contributions are well known in national women's magazines. Her quilts have been showcased in numerous exhibitions and are part of many private and public collections. Her "Barefoot and Pregnant" was featured in the exhibition and publication The Twentieth Century's 100 Best American Quilts. She has been inducted into the Quilter's Hall of Fame and awarded a Silver Star at International Quilt Festival.
