An artist with a self-described lifelong obsession with fabrics, Virginia Avery is known for both her quilts and her wearable art. Since entering the professional quilt world in the late 1960s, Avery has created an award-winning body of wearable art garments and quilts, and has been a pioneer in teaching, judging, and lecturing about the fabric arts. Among the honors Avery has received are the Distinguished Alumnus Award from her alma mater, DePauw University and the Silver Star Award for lifetime achievement at the International Quilt Festival in 1996.
