We honor and celebrate Karen S. Musgrave as that special person who has made a difference!
On October 21, 1999, The Alliance for American Quilts (AAQ) launched the "Quilters' S.O.S. - Save Our Stories (Q.S.O.S.) project at the International Quilt Festival in Houston, Texas. This project documents, preserves and shares the stories of living quiltmakers through tape-recorded interviews. Karen, teacher, lecturer, curator, writer, and professional quiltmaker was there from the beginning as an active participant in this Q.S.O.S. inaugural event.
Karen has given and continues to give generously of her time, talent and treasure as the project has grown. She is the Editor of the Q.S.O.S. Manual, the guide for individuals and groups to implement their own grassroots project. Through her unstinting source of energy and enthusiasm, she has encouraged hundreds of volunteers to support Q.S.O.S. She garners top honors as she interviews, transcribes, leads training workshops, initiates ideas, carries them through, diligently manages the details of processing the interview materials that go to the Library of Congress archives, and the list goes on. In this 2009 year, over 1,000 interviews are Online at www.allianceforamericanquilts.org/qsos/. Please take a look and enjoy the fruits of this project.
So we say, "Thank you, Karen, you rock!"
