This honoree's Memory Quilt square is sponsored by Blank Quilting, who joins The Alliance for American Quilts efforts to preserve the stories of quiltmakers for generations to come. Blank Quilting's Inspiration Guild project is a coming together of dedicated quilters to offer their talent and craft in the fight against ovarian cancer. Every quilt created by the Inspiration Guild bears the name of someone touched by ovarian cancer: a caregiver, victim, a survivor, a fighter. Visit Blank Quilting's website to find out more about this project: www.blankquilting.com

Joyce Jensen, who is in her third battle with ovarian cancer, grew up in Los Angeles, California. She is the mother of five, a retired public school English teacher, and an avid quilter. Her love for quilts began with her childhood bed quilt which was hand pieced and quilted by her grandmother. Joyce's first actual quilting activity was learned at the side of her future mother-in-law as they made quilts together for her wedding. Joyce is now busy making quilts for her husband, married children, and her 20 grandchildren. A highlight in Joyce's life happened recently as she was Honored by her dedicated quilting friends who generously made 116 quilt blocks in response to the offer from Blank Fabrics to help fight ovarian cancer through quilts. The quilt blocks were made and donated in Joyce's name. This was a humbling show of support for which she will always be grateful. Joyce hopes that through the efforts of numerous quilters more women will become aware of ovarian cancer and seek early testing for themselves, and encourage early testing for their friends and family members.
Along with Joyce, the quilters of St. George and southern Utah, hope that women everywhere will avoid the challenges of dealing with late stage ovarian cancer through awareness and early testing.
