This honoree's Memory Quilt square is sponsored by Blank Quilting, who joins The Alliance for American Quilts efforts to preserve the stories of quiltmakers for generations to come. Blank Quilting's Inspiration Guild project is a coming together of dedicated quilters to offer their talent and craft in the fight against ovarian cancer. Every quilt created by the Inspiration Guild bears the name of someone touched by ovarian cancer: a caregiver, victim, a survivor, a fighter. Judith DeSiro was born in Sharon, PA, the first of three daughters. Her interest in sewing began at an early age, sewing doll clothes for her dolls.
Judith was educated as a teacher and taught elementary school and remedial reading for 33 years in New York State. She is a dedicated wife and mother of two adult children. For many years Judith had been an accomplished garment seamstress and began quilting in the late 1980's. Quilting has become her passion and she has taught numerous adult and children's quilting classes. She has completed and shared many beautiful quilts. She is an active member of her local quilt guild and also of the American Sewing Guild.
Judith was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1985 and with treatment has become a breast cancer survivor. In 1993, she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer during surgery and followed up with chemotherapy treatment. Ten years later, and again in 2005 she has had recurrences of the ovarian cancer.
Judith shares her interest in quilting with both of her sisters. They attended and enjoyed precious time together at the Houston Quilt Festival in 2003 and again in 2005.
In spite of her diagnosis, Judith lives her life fully and remains positive and upbeat. She is courageous and is an inspiration to her family and many friends.
