67. "It All Started With a Nine Patch" Jeanette Thompson Chicago, Illinois |
| Fabric, batting and thread. |
| The first quilt class I took was at Quilter's Palette in Morton Grove, Illinois, on my 32nd birthday. It was a nine patch class and I was going to make a baby quilt for my new niece Maya. I had picked out beautiful pink and green fabrics. I knew how to sew but had no idea about the wonderful world of quilting. The teacher Faith Dukor-Chaplick, soon became my quilt guru and good friend. Through the last four years she has taught me how to make pin wheels, hour glasses and appliqué, and always encouraged my exploration and creativity in the quilt form. This exploration brought me past traditional quilt making into the world of art quilts. Painting with fabric and thread is how I like to think of it. Soon I found a small quilt group in Chicago and the Art Quilt list. I can now say that I am an art quilter and look forward to the journey ahead never forgetting that it all started with a nine patch. Thank you, Faith Dukor-Chaplick. |
