| I make quilts. And I study them as an academic pursuit. These two practices parallel one another. I often turn to historic patchwork designs for inspiration; I find new ways of using old patterns by adapting them with unconventional fabrics and settings. Likewise, in my research about Amish quilts, I probe these objects by examining them within diverse contexts, drawing inspiration from scholars whose work established quilts as a legitimate scholarly pursuit. |
