60. "Quilt History I: Mud Creek Park"
Allison Brown-Cestero
San Antonio, Texas
Vintage and contemporary commercial fabrics from four decades; artist-made fabric, including gelatin printing with plant material, hand-painting and hand-dyeing; vintage patchwork; machine quilting; photo transfer on label.
My quilt history begins with a cardboard square cut from a shoe box. I traced around it hundreds of times, using any scraps I could find. Repeated tracings eroded the template's edge; the last patch was much smaller than the first! My hand-piecing was uneven, my seams were crooked, but I still have that quilt. This new piece contains scraps from four decades, many from that first quilt. The gelatin-printed fabric reflects my current interests.
