quilt
59. "Tree of Life"
Betty Lou Cassidy
Egg Harbor, New Jersey
Cotton, organza, tissue paper pattern, silk, oakshott cotton, cotton thread, beads, specialty fibers. Appliqué (machine & hand), embroidery.
I came to quilting by way of tailoring and home sewing in 4-H as a child. As an adult, I continued stitching with crewel embroidery and needlepoint by earning certification from the Elsa Williams School of Needle Arts. Today, in addition to appliqué and traditional piecing techniques, I enjoy crazy quilting and bead and fiber embellishment. My piece is a Tree of Life, a standard Jacobean crewel embroidery symbol with a literal sewing pattern background.
