quilt
14. "Memories of My Mother"
Joyce Foley
Florence, Kentucky
100% cotton, machine, pieced and quilted.
When I was seven in 1946 my mother said to me, "How would you like to help me make a quilt?" She got out her scrap bag and told me we would make a nine-patch quilt. I chose the fabrics, traced the squares with a cardboard template and cut them out. I felt like a big girl, a quilter. The quilt still exists though it's been "loved" to tatters. (She often included a cat somewhere.)
