90. "My Lucky Day"
Susi Soler
Worthington, Ohio
I used photos of my "Passion", Lucky, my rescue dog (and his girlfriend). I left the 4 corner photos "puffy" like little pillows, while quilting the center photo. I hand embroidered the bones and words, machine quilted the background and added seed beads. I used all recycled fabrics (except photos).
I am the luckiest little guy alive! My human Mom adopted me last summer when the Delaware County Shelter rescued me along with 88 other little dogs. We have the most interesting home . . . there are bits of fabric everywhere . . . lots of places for me to snuggle. Along with a new Mom, I've got a girlfriend. Her name is Grace Ann and she lives next door to us. She ran me around in circles all summer long to strengthen my legs. I lived in a cage for 5 years so running is a wonderful thing. Mom wanted to enter this quilt contest to help make money to preserve the history of modern American quilts. She decided to use photos of me with Gracie, as doggies are her passion. She made the corner photos “puffy” because we are fluffy, puffy pups. I told her she had to put bones somewhere on the quilt - - they are my favorite. The quilt is cotton, with photos on cotton, hand embroidery, metallic thread, variegated thread and seed beads.
