88. "Fire & Smoke"

Fabric, polymer gel medium, stencils, paint, collaging fabric and painting.
Fabric collage on tyvek with stenciling, pencil and heavy thread painting aka quilting in gold thread. I have been doing a lot of fabric collage lately and then painting it...I love the play of wet color mixing on the fabric surface and the unexpected ways it changes the fabric. While i was working on this one it occured to me that it looked alot like a fire and smoke perhaps thinking of all the wild fires that have been plaguing our dry country lately. After it was painted with luminescent golden paints I stenciled it. Then I used a very soft pencil to write the word fire on the surface. Last I quilted it. The gold thread reminds me of lines of fire swirling across the surface of the quilt. This quilt was alot of fun to make...try it sometime!
