86. "We All Work Together"
Kathleen Brumbaugh
Saxton, Pennsylvania
I used an Amish Diamond in a Square as a backdrop for the appliquéd figures (original designs) and heart quilting. I used cotton fabric and cotton and polyester thread. Techniques used in this quilt are machine piecing, machine satin stitch applique, and free-motion machine quilting.
My quilt focuses on one alliance, the Alliance for American Quilts, because I felt I needed to show the common purpose which is central to an alliance, in this case depicted by the Amish Diamond in a Square pattern to represent all quilts. I wanted to show the diversity in the group of people involved by drawing each “person” separately, instead of using one template for all. The hearts in the quilting symbolizes the love of quilts and quilting that join everyone together to achieve a common goal.
